ALAMOSA — Church Women United (CWU) in Alamosa invites all women of the Valley to the 2018 May Friendship Luncheon on Friday, May 4, beginning at 12 p.m. noon in the Fireplace Room (next to the church), hosted by the women of Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa.

May Friendship Day started in 1933 when two women’s groups, meeting at separate luncheons, focused on children’s health and the children of migrant families. The first luncheon was held by the Women’s Council for Home Missions in New York City. In 1945 the observance officially became May Fellowship Day then in 1999 Church Women United changed the name to May Friendship Day which is celebrated on the first Friday in May.

Women of all religious and spiritual persuasions are invited to participate as we center on the role of Christian women in addressing the social needs of hunger, poverty, particularly in children. The theme is, “Reaching for Wholeness in Gratitude for God’s Presence.” Guest speaker for this event is The Reverend Father Uju P. Okeahialam, CS.op., PhD.

The celebration will begin with a program, and conclude with a community luncheon. Please bring a dish to share. Drinks and tableware will be provided. For more information, please call,
