The Centauri won a non-league game against 2A Woodland Park Friday night in Woodland Park 38-8. The win for the Falcons improved their record to 5-0. For the first time this year, the Falcons played a full game without a running clock.

The Falcons were without their starting quarterback Mckay Russell, but junior Byron Shawcroft stepped in and did an outstanding job. A 32-yard pass to Baron Holman set up a one-yard touchdown run by Mason Claunch. PAT was no good. Claunch would score again on a 30-yard run. Again PAT no good. The two Centauri scores made it 12-0  at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a defensive battle by both teams. Then the Falcons struck pay dirt on a 75-yard touchdown pass from Shawcroft to Deven Brady. Centauri led 18-0 at the half.

On the ensuing kick off to start the third quarter, the Panthers kicked sailed into the end zone giving the ball to Centauri on the 20-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Shawcroft would hand off to Claunch who started right then reversed his direction and scrambled 80 yards for the score. Claunch would then kick the PAT. That was the only score in the third quarter. The score shone a 25-0 advantage in favor of Centauri at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Woodland Park scored on a pass interception in the fourth quarter and ran the two-point attempt to end the shutout, Centauri led 25-8.  Centauri would score twice more once on a Shawcroft connection with Holman from 26 yards out and Claunch with his fourth touchdown of the game on a 22-yard run.

Woodland Park mounted a scoring drive late but was derailed by an interception by Coby Thomas. The Falcons would run out the clock for the victory.

This Friday Centauri hosts the Monte Vista Pirates in a showdown for the Southern Peaks League championship. Game time is 1 pm.
