Centauri High School earns SkillsUSA honor

LA JARA — Through CHS teachers Keith Christensen and Scott McCarroll’s excellent work guiding the SkillsUSA Centauri High School Chapter, Centuari High School is one of eight national finalists in the Workplace skills component of the SkillsUSA Framework!

The first level of recognition is a Quality Chapter, and this year 12 Colorado chapters/sections reached that level. The second level of recognition is the Chapter of Distinction milestone, and five Colorado chapters reached that milestone. Each of these chapters/sections received reserved seating at the opening ceremony, and was invited to a VIP red carpet event immediately following the opening ceremony on Wednesday, April 18.

The capstone of this program is the Models of Excellence level, and for the first time ever Colorado is represented. Congratulations to Centauri High School, Durango High School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for being national Model of Excellence finalists!

·   Durango High School is one of eight national finalists in the Personal skills component of the SkillsUSA Framework

·   Thomas Jefferson High School is one of eight national finalists in the Technical skills component of the SkillsUSA Framework

These Colorado chapters will have members participate in business and industry partner interviews in Louisville, Kentucky at NLSC. At the conclusion of the Models of Excellence presentations and interviews during the national conference, a single chapter in each component will be announced as the national Model of Excellence

In addition, these three Models of Excellence chapters will receive the following awards (based on secured sponsorship):

·   Large award banner

·   Award plaque

·   Attend the Models of Excellence awards banquet during NLSC at Churchill Downs

·   Recognized during the NLSC Awards Ceremony

·    Recognition in promotional materials and best practices guide highlighting Models of Excellence award winners

·    $2,000 chapter grant
