Centauri hosts round one match-up against Colorado Springs Christian

ALAMOSA— Continuing a streak that dates all the way back to 2012 the Centauri Football team have made the post season again. In their first game the undefeated Falcons will get the opportunity to play host to the Colorado Springs Christian High School.

Centauri got things going in zero week with a big win over post season perennial powerhouse Paonia by a score of 20-13.  They followed it up two weeks later with a victory in the 2A Intermountain League over Pagosa Springs 36-17. They then got one over on rival Monte Vista 27-2.

Those three wins are a testament to what the Falcons are capable of being that they all made the post season in their respective classes.

Not only that but Centauri also won games they were supposed to. Losing teams like Rye, Ignacio and Dolores combined for a 10-17 record and Centauri beat them by a combined score of 139-0.

The Colorado Springs Christian Lions are 6-3 over the course of the season and average 25.4 yards per game.
The Lions are a run first team by a 70 to 30 split. Primary rusher Gabe Danzik leads the ground attack for the Lions. Danzik averaged 7.9 yards per carry on the season and collected 880 yards going for 9 touchdowns. Danzik also has gotten involved in the passing game pulling down 7 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Their second running threat is passer Jordan Greager who has gone for 349 yards and 5 touchdowns on 53 carries. Under center Greager is similarly effective averages 12 yards a completion and has compiled 346 yards and 5 touchdowns. Albeit he is only completing passes at a 38 percent clip.

None of this should be particularly alarming to the Falcon faithful as Centauri has faced and defeated run heavy teams before, like the aforementioned Paonia Eagles and Monte Vista Pirates.

Paonia houses the number 18 rusher in the state in Jaden Miller with 1,336 yards while Monte Vista fields Jacob Chavez with 1,172 yards. And Greager’s trouble with accuracy should also play right into the Falcon’s hands as a team they have collected ten interceptions and two phase star Brandon Buhr is tied for 5th in the state with 5 of his own.

Also the Falcons have demonstrated that they have the ability to pressure the passer with 31.5 sacks in 8 games at a rate just under 4 sacks a game.

Colorado Springs Christian travels to Centauri on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
