Centauri qualifies both teams to state

ALAMOSA – Both Centauri High School cross country teams have qualified for the Class 2A State Meet Friday in Rocky Ford. Both teams qualified at the Class 2A Region 3 Meet.

Centauri won the girls meet with 19 points, easily outdistancing second place Buena Vista with 67. Leading the Lady Falcons was Tayte Hostetter who was the individual champion in 20:44.55. Kaia Skadberg finished second in 22:02.30, McKenzie Torres was fourth in 22:14.51, McKenna Guymon was fifth in 22:50.50, aqnd Tayden Montoya was 38th in 27:11.60. Other Centauri girl runners included Eliza Sowards who as 42nd in 28:28.70, and Taylor Bright who was 52nd in 31:22.70.

The Centauri boys team was fourth with 80 points, following St. Mary’s with 45, Rocky Ford with 46, and Thomas MacLaren with 63. Mason Sowards was the Falcons’ top runner as he finished seventh in 17:41.17. Carson Bagwell was eighth in 17:50.63, Ren Canty was 19th in 18:52.98, Tyrel Hostetter was 23rd in 18:59.29, Troy Sowards was 25th in 19:25.46, and Estevan Vega was 26th in 19:49.60. Also running for Centauri were Kaleb Anderson who was 49th in 21:22.20, and Nathan Finehout who was 62nd in 24:25.00.

Also qualifying for state on the boys side were Sargent’s Westen Burkhart who was 13th in 18:12.80, and Del Norte’s Riley Orr who finished 14th in 18:20.30.

Also running for the Del Norte boys were Corbin Horrocks who was 50th in 21:23.70, and Jose Pinon who was 56th in 22:36.00. Del Norte’s lone girl runner was Kaitlyn Kaufman Brigham who was 51st in 30:44.00.

Also running for the Farmers was Josiah Yocom who was 21st in 18:44.10. KayleeAnn Martinez was the only Lady Farmer to race and she placed 23rd in 25:03.00.

Antonito finished eighth in the boys race with 233 points. Leading the Trojans were Darius Gomez who was 53rd in 21:41.30, Dean Garcia who was 55th in 21:56.80, Andrew Abeyta who was 68th in 27:44.10, Austyn Lopez who was 70th in 29:23.70, and Joshua Vigil who was 72nd in 31:36.80. Zanita Garcia was Antonito’s only girl runner and she placed 44th in 28:44.10.

Center had only one runner in Blaney Higuera who was 49th in the girls race in 30:39.90.

For the Monte Vista boys, Memphis Garcia just missed qualifying as he was 18th in 18:33.30. Nehemiah Espinoza was 69th in 28:18.70. Kiera Sanchez represented the Lady Pirates and she was 43rd in 28:31.10.

The state meet will take place on Saturday at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. The 2A boys race is at 12:20 p.m. and the 2A girls will run at 1:40 p.m.
