LA JARA – The top-ranked Centauri High School wrestling team has two dual meets at the annual Naomi and Randy Keys Invitational Saturday at the Falcons’ gym.

The Falcons won both duals, however the wins did not come easy as they defeated Pagosa Springs 52-27 and then they defeated fourth-ranked Centauri 47-37.

“They weren’t easy,” said Centauri coach Cahlen Keys. “I would say they weren’t at the level I though we should be at. That’s why I’m a little disappointed. I don’t ever think duals should be easy especially against guys like this.”

The Demons’ Abram Durbin won the 285-pounbd match by forfeit. However, Salazar iced the Falcons’ victory as he pinned J.J. Medina in 1:11 at 106.

Buena Vista won the final match as Caleb Camp pinned Valdez in 1:23 at 113.

“I kind of knew how it was going to play out,” Keys said. “I’m not saying that I guessed every match, but I knew where their team was deep and where we were deep. We’ve been better at the upper weights all season and they’ve been lower at the lower weights.”

Falcons host Alamosa today

Centauri will host Alamosa, the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A today. Match time at the Falcons’ gym is at 6 p.m.

“It will be a fun one,” Keys said. “It’s kind of the same thing. They’re really good at the lower weights and we have it got it at the upper weights. They’re some weights that can go either way. That’s who’s going to win that dual. Who picks up those victories.”
