ALAMOSA - Adams State University men’s basketball coach Russ Caton has announced that a local product from Centauri High School has signed with the Grizzlies for next season. Baron Holman, a six-foot senior point guard for the Falcons, will stay inside the San Luis Valley to continue his academic and athletic career as a Grizzly.

“I’m very excited to have a local talent continue with his athletic career here at Adams State,” said Russ Caton. “I can’t wait to see what Baron will be able to accomplish at the college level.”

Holman, from Manassa, was a pivotal member of the Falcons team that was coached by former Adams State University Men’s Basketball Head Coach and Athletic Director Larry Mortensen. This past season the Falcons went 24-2, including a 7-1 record in the 3A Intermountain League. The Falcons’ two losses on the season came to IML against Pagosa Springs (Jan. 22; 47-42) and to Aspen (Mar. 12; 50-40) in the Class 3A State Tournament Championship game.

“I’m proud of what Baron has accomplished and thrilled he is playing for Coach Caton,” said Coach Mortensen. “I cant wait to see him in a Grizzly uniform.”

Holman played in 22 games this season while averaging 17 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. In addition, he has 2.3 assists per game and 4.3 steals per game. He was named Second Team All-State this year and was the IML Player of the Year.

Holman was also a Falcon’s football team member that went a perfect 12-0 on the season and won the 2021 Class 1A State Championship. He was a wide receiver with 859 all-purpose yards, including 17 rushing yards, 640 receiving yards, and 202 return yards. He scored 12 touchdowns.

Holman, the son of Aaron Holman and Cara Taylor, is a member of the National Honor Society and will be pursuing a degree in business.
