Center out, Antonito in

SAN LUIS VALLEY – Due to low sign up numbers Center was forced earlier this month to drop their football team for 2017. Since Center doesn’t have a team, after following the waiver process, players have an opportunity to play for other programs. Center will be leaving behind the 1A Southern Peaks division and such competition as Monte Vista and Centauri.

The voids left in the schedule by their departure won’t be marked as forfeits rather they will become open bye weeks for the opponent, or if they choose they will be allowed to try and find another game to play that day. The Vikings suffer low participation numbers just one year after making the post season with a 6-4 record going 4-1 in division play.

On the other side of things Antonito was below the participation initially but after more students showed interest Antonito athletic director Joe Garcia announced there will be Trojan football this year. Antonito figures to rejoin the 6-man league in the Southwest division. Therein they look to face the likes of Sierra Grande and Mountain Valley. The Trojans hope to right the ship after having gone 3-13 over the last two years.
