Chanell Dawn Ortiz

ALAMOSA — Chanell Dawn Ortiz 37 went home to be with the lord on April 12th , 2021. She was born on November 11th, 1983 in Alamosa to Dennis and Dawn Arnold Ortiz. Chanell was a 2002 graduate of Alamosa High School. She then graduated from her beloved Regis University in 2006 majoring in Theology and Religious Studies with a minor in Latin. She would then go to complete a master’s degree in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois.

Chanell had a love for the City of Seattle. If she were not working in Seattle’s libraries with their software systems, she could be found preparing food at Whale Wins restaurant or selling organic fruits and vegetables at Seattle’s Marketplaces. The Seahawks and the Sounders will be without their Number 1 Fan. Chanell was an outstanding soccer player for Alamosa’s Mean Moose. Most of all Chanell loved all her memorable summers with her Illusion Soccer team, fishing with her dad and spending time with her large family of friends.

She will be remembered by her infectious smile, quick wit, laugh, intelligence and the love of reading books. Chanell will live on through her two children Marci Maize and Cameron Bruce. She is survived by her parents Dennis and Dawn Ortiz of Alamosa, by Kenrick Nesbitt of Swannanoa, N.C., her grandmother Emma Connie Ortiz, auntie Sandi Beheriy, her uncle Larry Ortiz all of Alamosa, Uncle Luke (Bok-Hee) Ortiz of Little Rock, Ark. Uncle Chan Arnold of Alamosa, cousins Gage Gonzalez of Alamosa and Lucas Ortiz of Little Rock, Ark.

She was proceeded in death by her grandparents Lucas Ortiz, Bruce and Billie Arnold and her Godfather Albert Deherrera.

Celebration of Chanell’s life will be held on April 30th at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa with the Rosary at 9:30 AM followed by the Burial Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Alamosa Cemetery. The services will be livestreamed at www.sacredheartalamosa.org via YouTube. Arrangements are being made by Romero Valley Funeral Home.
