Charles “Charlie” E. Sykes

On August 11, 2018 Charles E. Sykes of Alamosa passed away on his farm of 40+ years doing what he loved. Charles was born February 14, 1949 to Ernest Sykes & Beulah Sykes Bible in Canyon, Tx.

He graduated from Canyon High School and joined the US Navy Reserves in September of 1967. He served his country in Vietnam from May 1969 to May 1970. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of ATC46, Engineman Petty Officer 3rd Class River Division 15. During that time, he earned two Bronze Stars and a Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”.

He married Lisa Hudson on August 18, 1972 in Canyon, Tx. He is survived by his loving wife and children Morgan (Tess) Sykes, Briana Sykes, Glenn (Becka) Sykes along with eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Judy (Dick) Cummins, Martha (George) Butz, Melanie (Earl) Shook, Cheryl (Johnny) Dotson, and George (Joan) Bible.

He was a member of the NRA, Colo. Farm Bureau, SLV Cattleman and former Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and expertise with this YHEC team and others.

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life will be held September 1, 2018 at 2 pm on The Redhen Ranch. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his honor to either the NRA or Colo. Parks and Wildlife.
