Charles D. Austin, 88

REXFORD, Kan.— Charles D. Austin passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at his residence in Rexford, Kan. at the age of 88.

Charles was born June 6, 1929 at his family’s farm home near Leoti, Kan. to Bradley and Florence (Adams) Austin. When he was five years of age, his family moved to Monte Vista, Colo. Charles attended grade school and high school in Monte Vista and Lewis Junior College in Hesperus, Colo. He served in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Private First Class.

On Nov. 2, 1950, Charles married Joan Wartman. They resided at Monte Vista until 1968. They then moved to Cook, Neb. where they owned and operated Triangle Supply, a livestock feed and equipment supply business. In 2007 the couple moved to Colby, then to Rexford in 2010.

Charles was a member of the Rexford Community Church and loved reading, woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Rexford; two sons, Charles Austin (Lori) of Syracuse, Neb. and Bradley Austin of Omaha, Neb., three daughters, Karen Spencer (Larry) of Stromsburg, Neb., Jaye Anne Austin of Lincoln, Neb. and Sharla Williams (Dwight) of Rexford; sister, Lola Ashton of Apache Junction, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd Austin and sister Dorothy D’Avignon.

A memorial service for Mr. Austin will be held on Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Rexford Community Church.
