Antonito resident Chuck Frank Atencio, 66, passed away August 18, 2021 at his home peacefully. Chuck was born on December 1, 1954 in Silverton, Colorado, the son of Frank Atencio Jr., and Josephine Vialpando. After graduating high school, Chuck enlisted and was a veteran of the United states Air Force. Once his duties in the service were completed he went on to work in the mining industry as an electrician. An outdoorsman in every sense of the word, Chuck enjoyed fishing, riding UTV’s and spending time with his family and friends. He was also passionate about competing in and attending car shows. He will be dearly missed.
His spirit will live on through his mother Josie Romero of Antonito, CO; life partner of 22 years Cynthia Pacheco of Manassa, CO; sons Lawrence (Nicole) Atencio, Charles Frank (Patty) Atencio Jr., Brad Scott (Mariah) Atencio, step-children Jennifer Pacheco (Johnny Hugo) of Manassa, CO; Alicia Pacheco of Manassa, CO; 12 grandchildren, sisters Linda Atencio of Antonito, CO; Jane (Bill) Gregory of Thornton, CO; brothers Ted (Liz) Atencio of Littleton, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father Frank Atencio , step-father Lawrence Romero, brothers Bobby Atencio, Jimmy Atencio and one sister Maxine Romero.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery with full military honors.
