Christensen puts up points 21 to lead the Thunderbirds to win number four

MOSCA — Friday night Sangre de Cristo’s girls (4-0) met Sargent (1-3). The Lady Thunderbirds took the meeting handily by a score of 57-12.

Entering Friday’s contest The Thunderbirds were fresh from hosting and winning their home tournament. The Thunderbirds faced little resistance steam-rolling all opposition on their way to a 49-29 victory in the championship game over Cheraw.

Sargent meanwhile took part in the Mountain Top Classic. Sargent faced two 3A teams to start the weekend Centauri and Moffat County ranked No. 6 and No. 20 respectively. Opening the weekend 0-2 Sargent redeemed themselves with a win over Las Animas on Saturday.

In Friday night's action Sangre de Cristo took the wheel from the outset and never let go. A nine-point quarter from Jessica Slane helped lift Sangre de Cristo to a 17-2 lead in the first. Slane finished her night second on the team in scoring with 15 points. By the half that lead had grown to 31-3. Sargent as a team registered one point in the second quarter off a free throw from Lexxi Aguilera.

After the half Kylee Christensen came on strong sinking her lone trey of the night and registering 9 points for the Thunderbirds to widen the gap to 48-7. Christensen led Sangre in scoring on the night with 21 points. Sargent sophomore Ashlyn Slovar picked up four points in the final frame to lead all Sargent scorers. The game reaching it’s 57-12 conclusion.

Sangre de Cristo will take the week off, next Friday they host Lake City Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. The following night the Thunderbirds go on the road for the first time this season to meet Del Norte at 5:30 p.m. Sargent will continue through the 1A Southern Peaks League facing Sierra Grande Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
