Church is all paid up

ALAMOSA—After three years of payments, the Alamosa Pentecostal Church owes no back taxes to Alamosa County.

The church, located at 184 East Second Street, lost its tax-exempt status in 2009 and was put on the county's 2010 tax roll. The county set up a payment agreement with the church to pay interest on the property taxes for 2010, 2011, and 2012.

"They were contesting their tax exempt status," Alamosa County Attorney Jason Kelly said during the board and staff updates portion of Wednesday's meeting. "It was granted retroactively and it could only go back so many years. Because of that they owed $1300 in back taxes."

The agreement made had the church paying $25 a month until the interest was paid off.
