Cloyde Everett Snook, Jr

ALAMOSA — Cloyde Everett Snook, Jr., 89, passed away on October 13, 2019. He was born on April 2, 1930 in Wayside, Nebraska to Cloyde E. Snook, Sr. and Janice (Overstreet) Snook. He honorably served his county in the United States Navy. Cloyde married Donna Jean in Chadron, Nebraska and eventually moved to Alamosa in 1964 where he was an Art Professor and head of the Art Department at Adams State College for over 30 years. He was very well known for his pottery, which was his most prolific art medium over his entire career but he was talented in many other media.

Cloyde is survived by his son Dr. Randall Snook of Lone Tree, Colorado, Cindy Abeyta of Weston, Colorado, Dr. Rick Snook of Santa Fe, New Mexico, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Donna. Cloyde resided in the Castle Rock area for the past 18 years after Donna’s passing. He continued for many years to return to Adams State to provide services to the Art Department as Professor Emeritus and mentored thousands of students over his career. The ‘Cloyde E. Snook Art Gallery’ was named after him at ASC.

Cloyde was a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather, potter known for his tea pots, educator and role model to many. He will be deeply missed by many.

Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday October 24, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa.
