ALAMOSA – A Seam in the Sky: Western Landscape exhibition opens Jan.18 in the Adams State University Cloyde Snook Gallery and continues through Feb. 7. An opening reception is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, in the Art Building.

The exhibit features photography by Adams State students who have been working on the show since the beginning of fall, according to Adams State assistant art professor Eric Stewart. Throughout the semester the photography class looked at the history, geology and myths surrounding landscape, the “West” and, of course, the Old Spanish Trail.

The photographs in the exhibition are inspired by students’ direct experience of being in “that” place, whether mental, physical or emotional. Students crafted their work by being immersed for three days in the landscape.

“Many students had never camped before, and the title of the show “A Seam in the Sky,” is taken from their reaction of looking up into the sky at night and having the Milky Way suspended bright and central above our heads, like the spine of the universe or the zipper of its winter coat,” Stewart said.

The exhibition includes the work of Susan Andrews, Sadie Baker, Ashely Lopez, Irma Lucero, Piper Meuwissen, Isabel Munson, Daniel Parsons, Jackson Sayler, Elizabeth Wolters and Patricia Rodriguez.
