Constance Jane Mayfield

Connie Jane Mayfield was born November 29, 1931 in Bountiful, Colorado to Christian Nicholas Harmsen and Mary Laura Morgan.  She had one brother, Denny Harmsen.  Connie had a wonderful childhood growing up at the family farm in Bountiful.  She attended school in LaJara and graduated from LaJara High School in 1949.  That fall she attended Brigham Young University.  During her Junior year at BYU she became engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Sam Mayfield.  They were married for time and eternity in the Mesa Arizona temple in June of 1952.  Sam was enlisted in the Air Force, being stationed in Tucson, Arizona.  While in Tucson, 2 little girls were born to their union, Teri Jean and Zana LaVerne.

Sam was then transferred to South Hampton, England where Connie and the little girls joined him.  A third little girl, Valorie Denise was born in South Ruislip, England.  They had many happy memories and wonderful experiences in England.

After returning to the states, two more daughters joined the family, Tammie Jo and Lisa Elaine.

Due to Sam having Multiple Schlerosis Connie had to go to work to help support the family.  She worked at the First National Bank in LaJara, Kelloff’s Food Market and the LaJara Clinic.  She spent three summers attending Adams State College, getting her Bachelor’s degree in Education to be able to spend more time with her family.  She was employed at LaJara Elemetary as a classroom teacher, then moving into the librarian position which she held the remainder of her career.  She touched many lives.

The love and joy of Connie’s life were her family and her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
