Council carries two motions

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa City Council members unanimously carried motions, which will help the city’s veteran community, as well as authorizing the City Manager to sign a developmental for the construction of a downtown hotel.

“Heather, I appreciate you making that statement that this project has the potential of providing $16 million annual economic impact,” said Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman in reference to Alamosa City Manager Heather Brooks’ assessment of the hotel during her presentation earlier in the meeting. “It’s like we’re putting this economic impact on the doorsteps of our downtown businesses.

“I can assure you when talking to those downtown businesses they can use that economic impact.”

The Alamosa Veteran Service’s motion carried, as well. However, getting the funding will be more complicated.

“We increased that line-item budget by a little bit in order to afford this,” Brooks said. “And you guys have improved the budget.

“Normally, after that happens, we go do the contracts with those outside agencies. ...

“But since the veterans group is an actual outside entity, I cannot do a regular contract with them — we have to do it IGA, which is nothing different outside what council has approved.

“We just need to get it in an IGA format.”

An IGA is an Intergovernmental Agreement.
