Couple charged in son's death

16-month-old died March 3

ALAMOSA– An Alamosa couple has been arrested and charged in the death of their 16-month-old son Crashtyn T. Howell.

Robert T. (Tre) Howell, II and Apryl Behrens have both been charged with first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. Both were also charged with conspiracy and being accessories to a crime as well as other charges, according to Robert Willett, district attorney for the 12th Judicial District.

Copies of the complaints against the pair were not available by presstime.

The pair appeared for advisement before Judge Daniel Walzl in Alamosa County Court on Tuesday with bond being set at $500,000 each and both remain in custody at the Alamosa County Detention Center. Attorneys for both were appointed and preliminary hearings set; April 20 for Behrens and June 3 for Howell.

Willett said he couldn’t discuss other details of the case due to a pre-trial publicity order by the court.

According to an obituary published in the March 7 edition of the Valley Courier, Crashtyn Howell died on March 3, 2020. He was born Nov. 21, 2018 in Alamosa.

The obituary stated that a memorial service was held on March 11.
