Cranes on their way south for winter stop at the Monte Vista National Wildlife refuge south of Monte Vista. The refuge hosts the 13th Annual Kids’ Crane Festival on Saturday, October 14. Parents and children of all ages are welcome. Events begin with lunch at the refuge at 12, with the release of a healed hawk at 12:30 p.m. and other activities such as a puppet show, scavenger hunt, migration and pollination games, binocular lessons and origami.
