Crash leaves one dead Friday afternoon

ALAMOSA — One person is dead following a car versus semi accident Friday afternoon.

According to Colorado State Police Trooper Gary Cutler, the collision occurred on Highway 285 at mile marker 64, between county roads B and D at 2:17 p.m.

An SUV driven by a 73-year-old male crossed the center line and collided with a semi truck hauling barley.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger was transported to an area hospital. The driver of the semi was a 32-year-old male. His condition is unknown.

Cutler said the semi then went off the roadway on the east side of the road and its fuel tank was punctured.

As of 5:50 p.m., the road was still closed to traffic.

And as of press time, authorities had not released the names of the victims.
