Creede Repertory Theatre to open Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella

CREEDE — Beginning June 30, Creede Repertory Theatre (Creede Rep) will open “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” a magical musical romance for the whole family.

“We can’t wait to open this centerpiece of our 2023 season, which beautifully represents this year’s themes of magic and transformation,” says Producing Artistic Director John DiAntonio.

Whether you’re looking to take the family, or for a romantic date night, Cinderella is a classic for ages 0-100. It runs June 30 to Aug. 25 in Creede Rep’s historic Mainstage Theatre, with evening performances starting at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. on the 4th of July) and 1 p.m. for matinees. Tickets start at $38 for adults and $20 for children. A show for all ages, children over the age of 2 must be ticketed; children under the age of 2 seated on the lap or in the arms of a ticketed caregiver are free.

“Let’s escape into a world where nothing is impossible. A world in which simple acts of kindness open the door for magic, wonder, and happily ever afters,” writes director Brittni Shambaugh Addison, who also serves as Creede Rep’s Education Director.

This 2013 Broadway adaptation of the classic story crackles with sweetness and freshness and features new characters, a hilarious libretto by Tony-award winning playwright Douglas Carter Beane, exciting twists, and the classic score by Rodgers and Hammerstein featuring unforgettable songs such as “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”

For the younger crowd, Creede Rep will offer Royal Tea Parties on the beautiful Cliffside Patio before select “Cinderella” performances. Dress in your royal best and join us for an enchanted tea party.

Each guest will enjoy snacks, beverages, a photo op, a book to take home, and can create their own special crown to wear to the performance. July 7, 22, and 28 and Aug. 5 and 18 beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for children 2 and older and $5 for accompanying adults.

For fans of the legendary songwriting duo, don’t miss “A Celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein” which will feature a collaboration between Creede Rep and the Creede Musical Arts Collective (CMAC) and showcases Creede Rep’s musical talent alongside CMAC’s world-class singers as they explore the works of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

The host for the evening is Creede Rep alumnus Ted Chapin, who served as the president of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization for 40 years. Chapin will also present his one-of-a-kind “Evolution of a Song” for an in depth look and listen into the duo's songwriting process for one of their most treasured songs.

“Ted is a legend and one of the foremost experts on Rodgers and Hammerstein,” DiAntonio says. “We can’t wait to have him back on our stage for one night only.” This once-in-a-lifetime event is Thursday, July 13, at 7 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre. Tickets are $50.
