Creede track prepares to close out season

CREEDE — Track has been kind to Creede this year. The Middle school had 5 athletes in track this season: Ryder Whitehorn, Garin Heinrich, Zach Romero, Jenna Fairchild and Ellie Jerabek. The middle schoolers had 3 track meets where they competed in Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, High Jump, 800m and the 200m. Each athlete set a personal record in their event and continued to improve as the season came to an end.

There were 2 high school track athletes this season; senior Casper Freedle and Sophomore Fletcher Madrid. High school went to 10 track meets and competed in Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump, High Jump and the 100m. Fletcher Madrid set a PR for the 100m and Discus at his first track meet. His speed continued to improve throughout the season. Fletcher consistently placed in the top 8 in Shot Put and the 100m. Fletcher was awarded with Southern Peaks League All Conference 100m.

Casper Freedle started the season off strong with back to back gold medals and a championship t-shirt in Discus. He qualified for the state track meet fairly quickly in the season and held on to his 3rd seed ranking for 1A Discus through the end of the season. Casper was received the Southern Peaks League Award in both Shot Put and Discus. Casper will be competing in Discus at the State Track Meet in Denver on May 17.  This will be Casper‘s third time representing the Creede Miners at state with Coach Nancy Leggitt and Coach Katlin Vanaken by his side.
