Crestone boy found; man charged with kidnapping

VALLEY — A 12-year-old boy who was the subject of a Colorado Amber Alert and had been missing from Crestone since Saturday was recovered Monday, and the man with him, David Glenn Freeman, 60, was arrested in Garfield County, Utah.

The Amber Alert announcing the 12-year-old’s disappearance was issued late Sunday after investigators determined he was in danger.

According to a release from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office in Utah, a person camping called deputies around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday to report they had been approached by two people who had no clothes on asking for water. The pair later came back asking for food. Deputies responded to the call, but did not speak with those people.

The next morning around 9:40, dispatch got another call about two people walking down the road near Mammoth Creek, Utah with no clothes on.

Deputies found the pair, later determined to be the subject of the Amber Alert and Freeman, and took Freeman into custody without incident. The boy was taken the hospital to be evaluated.

Freeman faces charges of first-degree felony kidnapping and lewdness. Freeman is being held in the Garfield County Jail.

Investigators believe Freeman and the juvenile know each other but aren’t related.

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating this active case.
