CRT's Young Audience Outreach to expand

CREEDE — After 34 years of successfully reaching rural and underserved schools and communities in the Southwest, Creede Repertory Theatre’s Young Audience Outreach Tour (YAOT) is expanding with a second tour in the fall.

This expansion is possible thanks to the Dane G. Hansen Foundation as well as Allan and Stefani Simon. YAOT will be expanding its shows to northwest Kansas and southern California. The funding provided by these foundations will allow Creede Repertory Theatre to provide up to 11 weeks of free programming to schools we reach in these areas.

YAOT’s mission is to bring high quality musical theatre to young audiences in rural and underserved communities and schools. Due to geography and economics, Creede Rep’s tour is the only live performance most of these children experience each year. Creede Rep crafts children’s shows that will represent excellent theatre, make theatre accessible and exciting, and reinforce the value of live performance.

Creede Rep is dedicated to making its annual Young Audience Outreach Tour affordable and deeply meaningful to the rural and underserved schools CRT reaches. As schools are forced to cut budgets, CRT is working with them to ensure that their students not only have access to excellent performing arts, but that CRT plays support teachers’ efforts in the classroom.
