CSU Pueblo spoils Adams State Homecoming

ALAMOSA -- Colorado State University-Pueblo scored the game’s first 28 points and went on to a 52-20 win over Adams State University at Rex Field Oct. 8.

CSU-Pueblo improves to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU slips to 1-5, 1-3 in the RMAC.

Andrew Cook started things for CSU-Pueblo when he caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Hunter Raquel. Jordan Jones was next to add points for CSU-Pueblo. He ran it in from 51 yards out to close out the first-quarter scoring.

Austin Bacher opened up the second-quarter scoring by hauling in a 26-yard pass from Raquel. Dorion McGarity finished the 28-point run by carrying it in from 10 yards out.

ASU got on the board, thanks to an 11-yard run by Daylen Boddie. The Thunderwolves answered when Sullivan Moon kicked a 25-yard field goal.

The third quarter included a Thunderwolves touchdown pass from Raquet to Max Fine (it covered 1 yard), an Adams State touchdown pass .. (Grayson to Elijah Harper) for 60 yards and a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by the Thunderwolves’ Nigel Mitchell.

Grayson closed out the Grizzlies’ scoring with a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Thunderwolves’ scoring also ended in the fourth quarter when Nick Bingham carried the ball into the end zone from 2 yards out.

The Thunderwolves ran for 276 yards against the Grizzlies. Jones was the top ground-gainer, who gained 80 yards on seven carries and scored one of his team’s touchdowns. ASU gained 111 yards on the ground. Isaiah Morris gained 42 of them on nine carries, and Mackall Grayson scored the Grizzlies’ only rushing touchdown.

Raquel was 16-for-25 for 206 yards and the three touchdowns.  McGarity was the Thunderwolves’ leading receiver with five catches for 63 yards.

Grayson was 19-for-31 for 223 yards and one touchdown. The scoring pass went to Elijah Harper, one of his four catches and 73 yards in receptions.

The Grizzlies hit the road for an RMAC game at Chadron (Neb.) State at noon Saturday, Oct. 15.
