Curtis Michael Chavez, 28

BLANCA — Blanca resident Curtis Michael Chavez, 28, passed away on Feb. 9, 2020. He was born on April 15, 1991 in La Jara to Charles and Theresa (Maestas) Chavez. 

Curtis honorably served his country in the United States Army and was active as a volunteer firefighter for the Costilla County Fire Protection District. He enjoyed fishing, playing video games, and above all, spending time with his son and his family.

Curtis is survived by his wife Freddie Jo Chavez, his son Mauricio Chavez, his unborn son Dominic Michael Chavez, his parents, Charles and Theresa Chavez, his sister Desiree (John) Naranjo, his brother Warren (Amy) Chavez, his God parents, Raphael and Phyllus Maestas, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his cousin Ryan Maestas.

Cremation was selected and a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020 at the Sangre de Cristo Parish in San Luis. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 also at the church. Burial of ashes will follow services in the San Isidro Cemetery. A meal will follow at the Blanca Community Center.
