Dale Robert Wiescamp

Dale Robert Wiescamp began life in Alamosa, Colorado, on July 30, 1940, born to William and Terena Wiescamp. He graduated from Alamosa High School, and then received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Colorado State University in 1963. While at CSU, he was active with Livestock Club and Ag Council. He served as Superintendent of the Little National Horse Show and was Arena Co-Chairman for the 1960 Skyline Stampede. He was the head counselor at Aggie Village and active in Campus Crusade for Christ, as well as Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

Dale met Karla Sue Englehart of Lewis, Colorado at Colorado State and they married in 1962. Dale and Karla celebrated 56 years of marriage in December 2016. Dale is survived by his wife, Karla; children, Cheryl (Jeff Nelson), Rodney (Sharon), and Greg; and two grandchildren Makena and Jacob. Also surviving are two brothers, Wilbur and Glen; and two sisters, Nancy (John) McKeever and Donna.

Dale loved the people, history and the landscapes of the San Luis Valley. He contributed to many community causes and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. Many people benefited from Dale’s extensive knowledge of water and environmental issues of the San Luis Valley, and throughout the years, he fought for the preservation of the land he so loved. Most recently he lent his expertise in water issues to the Rio Grande Basin Roundtable.

Dale was a licensed real estate broker, and he and Karla own United County Wiescamp Realty in Del Norte. Dale’s knowledge of the Valley and its people helped him to be successful in this people-oriented business. In recent years, son Greg returned to Del Norte to help Dale and Karla as Dale’s health declined. This enabled them to continue to manage the busy real estate business, which Karla will continue to carry on with the family’s assistance.

Dale touched many lives and he will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dale’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter, 4104 Outlook Boulevard, Bldg. B, Pueblo, Colorado 81008.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Del Norte High School Auditorium at 1055 9th Street on Friday, May 5, 2017, at 11:00 a.m.
