The 32nd annual Taste of Creede event will be held Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30. This weekend is devoted to showcase the arts of the region and the foods of Creede. This year’s honored artist is San Luis Valley renowned painter David Montgomery. David’s work will be on full display at the Creede Hotel during the weekend. David celebrates nature through the magic of his painting.

He has a great love for the outdoors and strives to commemorate this regions amazing vistas with his paint! After graduating from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1975, he has been painting in the San Luis Valley for almost 50 years. One of David’s highlights was being invited to paint at the Forbes Magazine Corporation estate in Normandy, France. During his time there he was able to enjoy many plein air excursions to the Norman countryside with other invited artists. Most notable was being able to paint at Claude Monet’s estate and water lily pond at Giverny. He has received 2020 Best of Show at the Western Rendezvous in La Veta, Colorado in 2012 the Artists’Choice Award at the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico among many other honors and awards.

In Creede David is represented by the C. Waters Gallery. During Memorial Day weekend the main street of Creede will be blocked off and painters will be painting Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. On Sunday, artist will be working from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. At 1:00 PM a host of artists will participate in the QuickDraw, a one hour paint out for the public can view artists gathering together and painting a variety of subjects and drawing media, watercolor, acrylic, oil and other media. At 2:30 PM these same works will be displayed and auctioned off with earned revenues going to next year’s event. Also happening during the weekend will be the Silver Chef Competition at 2:30 PM Saturday at Basham Park. This involves local chefs cooking on Main Street that use the same ingredients with judging and food tasting to follow.
