David O. Peterson, 66

David O. Peterson, 66, passed away on June 22, 2017.  David was born on December 10, 1950 in Brookings, South Dakota.  He grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri, where he won many trophies as a champion swimmer.  David learned the love of nature early from his father and as a Boy Scout.  The family moved to suburban Minneapolis, Minnesota, where David finished high school and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

David and his wife Gloria fell in love with the West and moved from Minnesota to Colorado in 1986, living first in Idaho Springs for three years, then moved to Evergreen in 1990.  They retired to a home in the foothills on the west side of the San Luis Valley in 2007.  David and Gloria lived happily here, enjoying their wonderful friends and neighbors, the great outdoors and the incredible views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and Great Sand Dunes across the valley.  David was an avid hiker, mountain biker, camper and skier, and spent as much time as possible actively enjoying the outdoor life.  He was a football fan, and his mother will miss the Sunday morning calls discussing football.

David is survived by his wife Gloria Brown, his mother Luella Peterson, his two sisters Debra and Sharon Peterson and an extended family of in-laws (as well as his great dog companions Rusty and Lily).  He is preceded in death by his father Orian Peterson.

David, your family and friends loved you well and we will miss you always.

Cremation was chosen and a Private Memorial and Celebration of David’s life will take place on Saturday, July 9, 2017 at David and Gloria’s home.

Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.  To leave online condolences, tributes and remarks for David’s family, please visit www.RogersFunerals.com
