Della Wingfield Prince Montoya

Della was born on Oct. 18, 1951, and was received into Jesus loving arms on July 28, 2023.

Della was the daughter of Jesse Phillips and Flonnie Wingfield and was raised in Alabama. Her mother moved the family to Mobil Alabama, where Della attended school. Della married her first husband Joe Prince there and they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. There she was blessed with two daughters, Cynthia and Jennifer Prince; Della became a single parent at a very young age. She worked two jobs and still managed to graduate college with a Bachelor’s degree in behavior science.

Della was an eternal optimist, never did she show any signs of negativity or quitting. Della was able to start her own business, a Day Care, and a Residential Facility for Challenged Adults in Los Angeles. She loved Colorado and invested in land. She built a home in San Luis overlooking the Sanchez Reservoir and started a BBQ business in San Luis.

While in Colorado, she met and married the love of her life, Andres Montoya of Chama Canon, Colo. They were together for 13 years. Della was always busy, she worked for Costilla County Social Services as a social worker, and later opened a residential facility for children in Alamosa, known as Lavender Trails ranch. Her latest interest was operating a Bed and Breakfast, which is what she was doing when Jesus called her name.

She will be greatly missed by her Husband Andres and her little Angels Zanaya, Zariyah, Blanca and Elijah. Her daughters, Cynthia (Lee), Jennifer, and her precious Grandchildren Aryan and Evan Smith; Al Wingfield, Shirley Sheman, and many other relatives, church members, and the people whose lives she touched.

Della was preceded in death by her Mother Flonnie Wingfield, her Father Jessie Phillips, her beloved sister Ann Wingfield, and her brother Robert and Wille Kirk.

A viewing will be held for Della at 5 p.m. on Aug. 11, 2023, at the Grace Chapel Church in San Luis, Colo. A service to follow will be Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Grace Chapel Church in San Luis, Colo.
