Derek Santiago Martinez, 29, of Greeley, CO was born May 24, 1989 in Alamosa, Colorado and moved to Greeley with his mother and brother in 1993. He began his spiritual journey July 30, 2018 in Greeley.
Derek was a very fun loving, out-going young man. He was quick with a smile, laugh and a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor. He was a very passionate, deep-feeling person which was personified in his love of family, music and his wonderful artistic ability. He loved doing artwork, reading and was a huge Broncos fan. He had a special place in his heart for his son, Kai and his nephews; Xavier, Malachi and Isaac. Derek found God and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was re-baptized on December 30, 2017 at the Adventure Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Greeley.
Survivors include his mother, Sarah Gallegos of Greeley; father, Lenny Martinez of La Jara, Colorado; brother, Drake; sons, Kai and Cody; nephews, Xavier, Malachi and Isaac; maternal grandfather, Robert Gallegos; paternal grandmother, Ernestine Martinez; his nino and nina Ruben and Melanie Hernandez; Kai’s mother, Kyndra; Aunties Renee and Raylene and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ellen Trujillo-Villareal and Jose G. Villareal and paternal grandfather, Pete Martinez.
