

Derrell Paul Shawcroft

Lifetime La Jara resident Derrell Paul Shawcroft, 63, died Nov. 1, 2023, at his home in La Jara, surrounded by family and under hospice care.
Derrell’s life began in Alamosa, Colorado on Sept. 18, 1960, the son of Gary and Ethel (Clair) Shawcroft. He married the love of his life, Margaret Tuckett, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Aug. 31, 1984.
Derrell was a rancher and raised cattle and bulls. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and through the years, held many different callings, including Bishop. He served his church mission in the Dearborn, Mich., area.
In his spare time, he loved watching football, both at the high school level and the college level. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren working cows at home or in the mountains.
Derrell is survived by his parents Gary and Ethel Shawcroft of La Jara; his wife Margaret Shawcroft of La Jara; his children Melanie Shawcroft of La Jara, Greg Shawcroft of La Jara, Kurtis (Breanna) Shawcroft of Vernal, Utah, and Mandi (Trevor) Paskett of Monte Vista, Colo.; his grandchildren Jason Shawcroft, Reece Koenig, Jacqueline Shawcroft, and Nathan Shawcroft; his siblings Perry (Bev) Shawcroft of La Jara, Marie (Don) Morgan of Meridian, Idaho, and Gene (Janeen) Shawcroft of Provo, Utah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Derrell was preceded in death by his infant son Jason Derrell Shawcroft.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. and prior to funeral services Monday, Nov. 5, 2023, from 9-9:45 a.m., all at the La Jara Spring Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation also at the La Jara Spring Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Monday, Nov. 5, 2023, at 10 a.m. Interment will take place in the Sanford Cemetery following the funeral service.
