MONTE VISTA — The Monte Vista Police Department was dispatched to 428 Franklin St. around noon on Wednesday, May 22 for a reported disturbance, which was ultimately a burglary in progress. The Monte Vista Journal reported that upon police arrival, Juan Acosta, 29, barricaded himself in the home after making threatening statements.

Acosta was also wanted for felony charges out of Rio Grande County.

After an hour-long standoff, officers used chemical agents to assist in forcibly removing the suspect from the residence. During the arrest several officers sustained minor chemical oxycodone exposure, however no one was seriously hurt during the incident, and a secure perimeter had been established to ensure public safety.
