DEL NORTE — The Del Norte High School Class of 1960 celebrated their 61 Year Reunion during the Covered Wagon Days weekend.  On Friday, August 6, 2021 classmates, spouses, and family members gathered at the home of Janet and Don Noland in Monte Vista, CO for an Open House. The group enjoyed eating delicious snacks, visiting, and looking at Archive Notebooks compiled by Janet Noland.

On Saturday, August, 7, 2021 the classmates enjoyed riding in the Covered Wagon Days Parade on the class float with the theme of “Continuing to Explore our Horizons”. Judy Drake supplied the trailer and the classmates sat on vintage pews from the First Christian Church. Janet Noland arranged a tour of the new kindergarten through 12th grade school building with Aaron Horrocks, the Superintendent of Schools as the tour guide. At the beginning of the tour, the alumni of 1957, 1960, 1961, 1965, and other years met in the auditorium to hear Janet Noland inform the group of the history of the DNHS football team winning the San Luis Valley Football Championship in 1930. Her father , Lynn Woods, was the center for the football team.

The First Christian Church DOC in Monte Vista, Colorado was the setting for the Reunion Dinner on Saturday evening.  The Fellowship Hall was decorated with black and orange striped table coverings, stuffed tigers, and a celebration cake decorated with a tiger head and black and orange frosting. Classmates and guests each received a Contigo cup custom printed with a tiger and reunion wording by Uniquely Delightful.  Janet Noland welcomed those present and the invocation was given by classmate, Rev. Henry Hanna.  A sumptuous feast was catered by Sunflour Bakery of Monte Vista, Colorado.  Following the dinner, the classmates enjoyed visiting and sharing stories.

Don Noland was thanked for helping with the float, preparing snacks, and making the banners. Classmates declared him an honorary member of the class.
