Donald Dean Mangan

Donald Dean Mangan, 74, died September 17, 2021, at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Donald’s life began on August 17, 1947, in Garden City, Kansas, the proud son of James Raimon “Rai” Mangan and Mary Francis Mangan.  He married the love of his life Ida Ruth “Bunny” Volk on April 2, 1966, in Crook County, Oregon. 

Donald served in the United States Navy during Vietnam.  Following his time in the Navy and after a few years of college, he took a job and worked as a Maintenance Manager for the Bureau of Land Management.  He was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed hunting, leather tooling and knife making.  Above all, he loved spending time with his wife and family.

He was survived by his wife of 55 years, Bunny Mangan of Sanford; and his children Donald Dean (Marcia) Mangan II of Del Norte CO and Bunny Danean (J. Tony) Salazar of Manassa CO; His brothers and sisters, James (Barbara) Kester of Saint Louis Missouri, John (Melba) Kester of Garden City, Kansas, Marlene (Algie) Hassler of Santi, and Russell (Ellen) Mangan of Garden City, Kansas; his grandchildren: Drew, Donovan (Trinity), Ashley, Jasmine, Anthony, Jeremy, Alisha, Aaron; as well as nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mona Carr.

Cremation was chosen and a Remembrance Reception will be held at the Mangan residence October 2nd from 1:00-3:00 pm.
