Donna K’s Cat tales: TNR clinic scheduled

First, as always I’d like to thank all of the folks who so generously donate time, money and provisions to help all of the cats and kittens in the San Luis Valley and surrounding areas. Your efforts keep them well fed, safe from predators and promote good health.

I haven’t written this article for several weeks because I wanted to get all of the information for the trap, neuter and release (TNR) clinics that come periodically to the SLV. It is my understanding that CatsAlive will be in Saguache County on Saturday, Sept. 22. Their web site is www.catsaliveslv.com Check the clinic instruction page. This is a wonderful service provided at a low cost and we appreciate their efforts. (The local veterinary clinic in Alamosa quoted the prices of $129 to spay a female and $69.50 to neuter a male.) We are fortunate to have a grant through Dr. Deal in Monte Vista. Call Carla at 852-5504 for access to this service.

The Valley has several TNR clinics that come periodically. However, they can’t keep up with the needs for helping with many litters of kittens which could be born in the wild. I have a 32-foot travel trailer which I would donate for this cause if I could find a licensed vet and a grant to travel. We would have to comply with county, state and local regulations and I don’t have the knowledge or ability to make this happen. Let me know if anyone shares my passion to pull this off.

I do have the supplies to build “kitty condos.” We put pallets to keep them off of the ground and put Styrofoam containers, clean certified straw inside with tarps overhead to keep them dry and safe from predators. We can build them to house as many as are in a colony.

I do have a tax exemption profit status. Thank you for your help. GOD BLESS YOU.
