Dorene Yvonne Roberts, 82

Dorene Yvonne Roberts passed away April 27th from complications of cancer. She was 82 years old.

Dorene was born in Denver Colorado at Presbyterian hospital on June 22, 1935. Her parents were Harvey and Irene Roberts. They lived in Fort Collins until 1941 when the family relocated to Rattlesnake Oil Camp at Ship Rock, New Mexico where she attended grade school in Farmington, NM .Then the family moved to Walden where she finished grade school and junior high. She attended high school in Craig and graduated from Moffat County High School in 1953. She went on to attend Colorado Women’s College where she joined  Kappa Delta Sorority, she graduated from there with a Associate of Arts degree in May 25th, 1955. She went on to Attend Colorado State University and graduated from there on June 25th 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

She married Harold Le Platt on August 5th 1956 in Aztec, New Mexico. They had three daughters Yvonne, February 9th 1957, Yvette September2nd 1960, and Renee August 28th, 1962. Harold and Dorene divorced in 1977.

Dorene worked at various jobs ,Capitol Life Insurance in Denver, Amters Dept. store in Denver, Medicine Chest, Valley Sprinkler Company,Gibsons,United Farm Real-estate all in the San Luis Valley and lastly for Jeffco School District as a Counselor.

Dorene was a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter #56, United Methodist Church, and Prespiterian Church. Dorene had a very strong faith in God and said the bible was her favorite book!

Dorene learned to LOVE the Indian culture from her time living at Ship Rock, her Navajo name given to her by the locals there was “the Bear.” She also loved the mountains, and she loved hunting and fishing with her father on the Yampa River. She spent her childhood camping up Poudre Canyon.

Her mother taught her how to sew, knit and crochet! Shortly before her passing she was busy crocheting hats for the chemo cancer treatment department at the hopistal! She had an amazing memory and never forgot a birthday or Anniversary. Always sending a card! She loved her Knick knacks and joked she had her own gift store in her apartment! She was an avid reader and devoured each new series of the books she was reading!

Dorene loved her family! Loved telling stories of the old days! She enjoyed her grandchildren and loved hearing about all their activities! She enjoyed dancing at their weddings! She loved to dance!! She also enjoyed her great grandsons and loved attending their activities!

Dorene lived in Inverness Florida and enjoyed her time there; she moved to Windsor in August 1995 and lived there until 2005 when she moved to Farmington, New Mexico where she resided at the time of her passing.

Dorene is survived by her loving daughters Yvette (Tim) Cooley of Monte Vista, Colorado and Renee Davis of Pagosa Springs, Colorado , Grandchildren, Arlie(Jesse) Hankins, Cassidy (Brittany)Montoya, Averey Johnson, Promise Montoya, Alexie Johnson, Chance (Ali) Cooley, Callahan Montoya and Colton Cooley

Greatgrandchildren Javen, Jrason and Jacoby Hankins, Christian and baby girl Cooley

Beloved nieces and nephews Sandra Jensen, John (Rhonda) Drake), Rex, Brad (Debbie), and Scott Winder and Joan (Bill) Baker.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Irene Roberts, her beloved daughter Yvonne Le Platt, her brother Duane Roberts and Sister Barbra Rees.

She will always be in our hearts and we will miss and LOVE her so very much!  “You better believe it”

A Memorial service will be held for Dorene at The First Methodist Church of Fort Collins, 1005 Stover Street, Fort Collins CO. 80524 on Saturday June 24th at 11:30 AM Concluding at Grandview Cemetery at 1 PM
