Dorothy M. Mondragon

FORT GARLAND — Fort Garland resident Dorothy M. Mondragon, 93, passed away Nov. 19, 2019 at the Life Care Center in Colorado Springs with her loving family by her side.

Dorothy was welcomed into the world on Feb. 5, 1926 in Fort Garland, the daughter of Atilano Aguilar and Mary Hilda Martinez.

She worked as a cook for many years; she had a passion for making delicious food for everyone. She was a member of the D.A.V, the V.F.W and the Carmel Lites of San Luis, Morada Jesus of Nasariah of Fort Garland. She was very faithful and devoted to her love of God.

Dorothy was an exceptional and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed working on her garden, growing her flowers, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters Darlene (Jesus) Jimenez of Bakersfield, Calif.; Irene Hidalgo of Fort Garland; Evaline Quiller (Jesse Arellano) of Colorado Springs; Janieth Gallegos (John Bradley), Shirley Fernandez both of Alamosa; 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters Vince Cholatola, Jennie (Joe) Martinez both of Denver; Marcela Chacon, Eva (Ernest) Ruybal both of Alamosa; Berlinda (Mike) Martinez of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers Orlando (Pauline) Aguilar, Adonie Aguilar Tommy (Christina) Aguilar all of Denver. She also is a survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Atilano and Mary Aguilar; first husband Joe Hidalgo; second husband George Mondragon; daughters Carol Hidalgo, Mary Hidalgo, Judy Hidalgo; son, Kenneth Hidalgo; brothers, Modesto, Levi and Evan Aguilar.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
