Duncan is new Land Title Association of Colorado president
ALAMOSA — Jason Duncan, CTIS, San Luis Valley Title Co., Alamosa, was elected president of the Land Title Association of Colorado on Friday, September 7.
The association is a trade organization of title insurers and agents all across Colorado. The association’s main goal is to advocate for the title insurance industry in Colorado, in the education and legislative areas.
The 98th annual meeting and convention was held in Vail at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort from Wednesday to Friday, Sept. 5-7.
Duncan is believed to be the first president of the organization from the San Luis Valley.
Jason literally grew up in the title business. His father Dave Duncan came from Denver and incorporated San Luis Valley Title in 1977 after purchasing what was then Valley Title Company, a company whose history dated to at least 1921 when it was known as The San Acacio Abstract and Investment Company.
“I was a toddler when my dad started,” Dave recalled. “I used to spend summers helping out around the office. I started full time in September of 1998, so I’ve got 20 full years of experience in the business.”
He added, “The neat thing about the title industry is that even with 20+ years of experience, you see new things pop up all the time. Whether they are issues with a chain of title or out of the ordinary liens, I see things all the time that keep me on my toes.”
Duncan also holds the CTIS (Certified Title Insurance Specialist) designation through LTAC, a designation that means he has experience and education in all aspects of the title insurance industry (title searching, examining, the closing process, etc.).
“I’ve tried to use my position on the LTAC board to bring light to the issues that affect smaller, rural agents, as the issues we see can be completely different from what is seen in the metro areas,” he said. “Whether it’s agricultural property, or properties that have been in families for decades, we deal with a lot of ‘small town’ issues that just don’t happen in more urban areas. I plan to continue to champion for the small independent agents as president of LTAC. With the majority of the LTAC board being from the Front Range, I believe I fill an important niche and give a voice to those smaller, rural agents.”
