Eduardo “Edward” H. Lopez

Eduardo “Edward” H. Lopez of Romeo, CO passed away peacefully at home under Hospice care surrounded by his loving family on September 21, 2017. Edward was born on January 12, 1928 in Espinosa, CO to Pablo and Desideria Lopez. Edward was the 6th child of 11.  On January 22, 1951 Edward married Bertina Romero in Conejos, CO. They were married for 65 years before Bertina passed away on June 28, 2016. Together they raised 4 beautiful children Edward Jr., Rebecca, Clarence, and Christine. Edward and Bertina raised their family in Romeo. Edward was drafted to the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War until 1953. Upon returning home from the war Edward worked for the Moeller Farms for several years and then began working for Grefco Inc. in Antonito, CO where he later retired. Edward enjoyed his retirement building his beautiful farm and ranch. He raised sheep and then later switched over to just cattle. He loved working the farm and ranch, this is where he spent all of his time up until the day he became ill. When he wasn’t putting his sweat and blood into the farm and ranch Edward enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time on his pontoon boat. Edward was part of several organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Knights of Columbus where he was a Third Degree Knight. He was a very religious man, always attending church services, donating time and money to the church, and attending church festivities.

Edward is preceded in death by both of his parents; his siblings: Paul Lopez Jr., Elfego Lopez, Gilbert Lopez, John Lopez, Stella Cisneros, and Ruby Romero; and his loving wife Bertina Lopez. He is survived by his children Edward Lopez (Irene), Rebecca Martinez (Mitchell), Clarence Lopez (Lorraine), and Christine; grandchildren Gene (Rebecca), Josette, Kimberly (David), Nichole (Wayne), Erica (David), Nathan (Cerissa), Jayson (Bre), Bryan, and Brandon (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren Marlena, Shaun, Lilliana, Austyn, Kiera, Bryanna, Savannah, Blas, Mia, Mya, Nathan Adrian, Ayden Jay, Nevaeh, and his “baby/ little girl” Zalyana; siblings Sarah Salazar, Josie Cordova (Fred), and Lila Vigil (George).

Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday September 23, 2017 and Sunday September 24, 2017 both at 7p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Conejos, CO.

Mass of the Resurrection will be on Monday September 25, 2017 at 11a.m. in Conejos, CO. Interment to follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery with full military honors. Viweing and visitation will be held on Saturday from 1-5PM at Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. The Lopez family would like to express  a heartfelt thanks to Hospice del Valle for their services.
