Elias (Leo) Robert Manzanares

Passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2023, in his home. He was born on Oct. 27, 1934, to Francisco Ignacio and Rosanna Maria Manzanares. Leo was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, godfather, and a friend to all.

Leo was born and raised in Monte Vista. He enlisted in the Army in 1957. He married Loretta (Trujillo) in 1961. They welcomed Peggy, Cindy and Michael. 

Leo enjoyed playing BINGO, hunting, fishing, watching football, listening to Spanish music, and being surrounded by family. He was a member of the Elks for many years as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Leo is survived by his children Peggy Manzanares of Monte Vista, Cindy Martinez (Jesse) of Monte Vista, and Michael Manzanares (Rhonda) of Pueblo West; seven grandchildren Tesa Maxwell (Dennis), Zachariah Manzanares, Heather Gonzalez (Manuel), Savannah Marshall (Justin), Bethanie Manzanares (Shelby), Dante Madril (Alicia), and Chloe Manzanares; 12 great-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Windham, numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family members.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife Loretta, his parents Francisco Ignacio and Rosanna Maria, one brother and five sisters. 

The rosary will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in Alamosa, at the Romero Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. in Monte Vista, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Inurnment will be held at the Monte Vista Cemetery with full military honors.
