Monte Vista resident Elizabeth “Bea” Steffens, 97, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on April 26, 2018 surrounded by her family. Bea was born May 8, 1920 in Alamosa, CO, the daughter of John and Irene Meehan.

Bea graduated from Alamosa High School in 1939 and attended Adams State College before stating work at Rio Grande Motorway and the Alamosa Clerk and recorder office. She was secretary at Sargent High School for 20 years.

She was an avid reader and loved spending time in the mountains.

Survivors include her daughters Katherine (Rick) Ellithorpe of South Fork, CO; Karen (Armon) Ellsworth of Alamosa, CO; and son John (Barbara) Steffens of Monte Vista, CO; brother James Meehan of Denver, CO, She had eight  grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband Jim Steffens, son Joe, her parents John and Irene Meehan, two brothers Charles and Terry Meehan.

Recitation of the rosary will be held on Friday May 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, CO.

Memorial mass will be held on Saturday May 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista with burial to follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery.
