Elsie Marian Studebaker

Heaven gained a master gardener when Elsie left this earth.

Elsie was born in Alamosa, to Richard and Adriana (Van Iwaarden) Weiscamp to complete the family with her brothers Ed and Gerrit. She was baptized in Alamosa Christian Reformed Church Dec. 5, 1943 and graduated from Alamosa High School in 1961.

She married Douglas E. Studebaker Oct. 2, 1970 in Del Norte, at Bethel Baptist Church. They were blessed with one son, Richard Douglas.

They lived in Alamosa until 1976 and then moved to Boulder, until 1989 when they then journeyed to Eagle River, Alaska. In 2008 they returned to their home in Boulder.

Elsie was a loyal and energetic employee whether as a dental assistant or working in the Safeway Deli and Pharmacy. She was affectionately called the “Green Flash” by her son and fellow employees for the speed in which she accomplished tasks.

Elsie loved her family, her friends, her animals – especially her dogs, reading, and gardening. She lovingly worked the earth to grow beautiful flowers and produce. She was a good neighbor and shouldered many responsibilities, including vice president on the HOA board.

Elsie leaves behind her devoted and loving husband Douglas E. Studebaker, her caring son Richard D. Studebaker, and adoring grandsons Xander and Kyrian. She also leaves to mourn her passing, brother Ed (Judy) Wiescamp, niece Kim Weiscamp, nephews Brent and Brian Weiscamp, niece Cindy (Jeff) Tidswell, her sisters-in-law Lynnette Motz, Linda Motz, Laura (Ron) Letey, Leslie (Frank) Johnson, and many friends and family.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents, her brother Gerrit, her parents-in-law Doug and Thora Studebaker, her brothers-in-law Larry Motz and Arthur Motz, her niece Kristina Letey Davis, and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 12:30 p.m. at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place in Boulder. A reception will immediately follow the service, also at Crist Mortuary.
