Encarnacion Herrera, 90

Chama resident Encarnacion Herrera, 90, passed away March 27, 2017 at the San Luis Valley Health Center with her loving family by her side. Encarnacion was born on August 17, 1926 in San Luis, Colorado the daughter of Genaro Sanchez and Margarita Archuleta Sanchez. She was united in marriage to Jose A. Herrera and the two shared a long and happy union until his passing. Encarnacion was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who spent her entire life caring for all her family. She enjoyed sewing, knitting doing arts and crafts, reading and writing poetry and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons Tommey Herrera of Ft. Garland, CO; John Herrera of Alamosa, CO; grandchildren Nick Herrera, Lucas (Michelle) Herrera both of Denver, CO; Juan Jose Herrera Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO; Sherry Gallegos of Alamosa, CO; Stephanie Gallegos of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren Jose Herrera of Denver, CO; Nusia (Marc) Rose , Zackary Herrera, Bella Herrera all of Denver, CO; Amaya Herrera of Colorado Springs, CO; great-great-grandchildren Chanel and Michelle Gallegos, Adriana and Marissa Urruita all of Denver, CO; Irene Medina of Corriera, CO;  brother Manuel (Verma) Sanchez of Corriera, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Encarnacion is preceded in death by her parents Genaro and Margarita Sanchez, husband Jose Herrera, daughter Dorothy Gallegos, grandson Xzavier Salazar and two sisters Maria Rivas and Placidad Valdez.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama, Colorado. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been trusted to Romero Funeral Home of San Luis.
