Estella Maria Jaquez

SAN LUIS — Lifelong San Luis resident Estella Maria Jaquez, 91, went home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2021, with her loving family by her side. Estella was welcomed into the world on April 18, 1929, in San Luis, Colo., the beloved daughter of Miguelita Martinez and Rufinita Lopez Martinez. Estella will always be known and missed for her kind nature, compassionate heart and her amazing cooking. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed working with the church, cooking, crocheting, quilting, gardening, traveling and she loved reading. She enjoyed taking care of Jody, James, Jerry Vigil and Carlitos Jacquez. Estella cherished the time she was able to spend with her family and friends.

She will live on through her husband Henry Enriques Barela of San Luis, Colo.; daughters Victoria (Elmer) Sanchez of Chama, Colo.; Anna Marie Velasquez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Theresa (Sam) Medina of San Luis, Colo.; Lillian (Larry) Trujillo of Littleton, Colo.; step-daughter Nancy Barela of Texas; sons Jesse (Carla) Jacquez of Alamosa, Colo.; Donald Jacquez of Pueblo, Colo.; Henry (Abby) Jacquez of Arvada, Colo.; Johnny Jacquez of Alamosa, Colo.; 29 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Estella was preceded in death by her parents Miguelita and Rufinita Martinez, first husband Henry Jaquez, brother Joe Martinez and daughter-in-law Lillian Jacquez.
