Evelyn Louise Olson

MONTE VISTA — Evelyn Louise Olson, 96, of Orem passed away quietly on October 4, 2019 with family at her side. She was born on February 13, 1923 in Ransom, Kansas to Albert Charles and Ida Susan Kraus. She married Carl Victor Olson on June 18, 1946 in Monte Vista, Colorado. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1971.

Evelyn attend schools in Ransom graduating with her high school diploma in 1940. She received her Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and minor in Latin from Fort Hays University in Hays, Kansas in 1944. While raising her family Evelyn attended Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado earning her Masters Degree in Liberal Arts.

Interests include music, having played the violin, French horn, piano, organ, and guitar. Other interests she loved are traveling, reading, and writing poetry. She was a distinguished member of the International Poetry Society and is a published Poet of Merit. Many of the items she made by hand were donated to others. She was a member of American Association of University Women (AAUW), a non-profit organization which advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. She also participated in Toastmasters and was a baptized member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, serving in various service positions.

Evelyn taught high school English at the Norton Country School in Colorado. She began teaching in the Monte Vista School District in 1962 and continued to teach children in the Special Education program until her retirement in 1994.

Survivors include David Lee Olson of Westminster, Colorado, John Richard (Cindy) Olson of Watkins, Colorado, Mary Susan (Glenn) Craig of Orem, Utah, Gene (Connie) Kraus of Medford, Oregon; 12 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Victor Olson, step-son Wayne Harold Olson, and sister Mildred Marie Palmquist.

A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM on October 12, 2019 at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah.
