Evelyn Montoya

Alamosa resident Evelyn Montoya, 65, passed away October 10, 2021 after her fearless battle with Covid-19. Making her big entrance into the world on January 14, 1956 in Rocky Ford, Colorado, the beloved daughter of Wilfred Florez and Mary Aragon Florez. Evelyn was and will always be remembered by all who knew her as one of the kindest, sweetest and loving person they’d ever met. She was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and always made everyone feel welcome. Evelyn had a heart of gold and made friends with everyone. She loved her family and friends more than anything. Evelyn was truly an angel on earth. After many years of dedicated service working for the Alamosa School District working as a custodial supervisor she was able to retire in 2010. With her newfound free time, Evelyn enjoyed going to yard sales, going gambling and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren. She also loved to spend time with her dog Fea and her favorite niece Mariah. She is already dearly missed and her smile and kindness will always be remembered.

Survivors include the love of her life, her husband Christopher Montoya of Alamosa, CO; son James Maes of Alamosa, CO; grandchildren Shylea Huckins, Jeremy Maes, Patrick Huckins, Nathaniel Maes, sisters Amy Flores of Pueblo, CO; Theresa Flores, Debbie Florez (Orlando Archuleta) both of Albuquerque, NM; Nancy (Earl) Gonzalez of Blanca, CO; brother Dickie (Sue) Florez of Georgia, 14 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews and many friends. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Fernando Florez.
