Fall clothing, gear swap is Saturday in Alamosa

ALAMOSA — SLV Swap has been hosting community based clothing and gear swaps in the SLV for the past seven years.

These swaps allow community members to clean out their closets, garages, and storage giving new life to old stuff and keeping it out of landfills.  There have been swaps for kids clothing and accessories, men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, books, craft supplies to name a few. These completely free events are run by community volunteers and allow any community member to leave what they have extra and take what they need.

The 2018 Fall Swap will be October 27 from 9-11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa (2005 Mullins Avenue).  There will also be an Adult Clothing and Accessory Swap on November 3, same time and location as the kids swap.

Here is how the Kids’ Clothing and Accessory Swap works in practice in Alamosa.  Community members bring children’s clothing, toys, baby/nursery gear, sports gear (bikes, skateboards, uniforms, shoes, etc.) and maternity clothes in good repair that they no longer need. Items need to be clean and not smell of smoke. Sort items onto tables by gender/size. Take what your family needs.

It is helpful for participants to sort items before they come on Saturday. It will save so much time! Items are grouped by gender and the following sizes: 0 – 3 Months; 3 - 6 Months; 6 - 9 Months; 9 - 12 Months; 12 - 18 Months; 18 - 24 Months; 2 T-3 T; 4 T - 5 Years; 6 - 8 Y; 9+.  The other items are grouped in the following manner: costumes, outerwear (hats, gloves/ mittens, coats), shoes, maternity, sports (gear, uniforms, bikes, skateboards), diapers/baby wearing/ nursing supplies, toys, books, baby accessories, and Cub/ Boy Scout and Girl Scout uniform pieces.

Those who are unable to attend the swap but have items to donate, please contact Mandy at the information listed below. Please do not just drop them off at the church. All leftover items will be donated to local charities.

From 9-10 a.m., exchange your items for those that you need. After 10 a.m., anyone can take what they need, whether they bring items to exchange or not.
