Felix A. Cordova Sr.

Felix A. Cordova Sr., 88, passed away peacefully in an assisted living home in Colorado Springs, Colo., on June 6, 2024. He was born in Capulin, Colo., on April 24, 1936, and moved to Los Sauces, Colo., when he was 5 years old. He was united in marriage to his “high-school sweetheart” Ella E. Salazar on June 17, 1967, and lived in Manassa, Colo., where they raised their family.

Felix was preceded in death by his wife Ella E. (Salazar) Cordova, parents Ruben Cordova, Sr. and Adelina (Romero) Cordova, siblings Addie (Eusebio) Salazar, Ruben Jr. (Emma) Cordova, and Josephine Abeyta.

Felix was a familiar sight to the people of Manassa as he picked up his mail or went to his ranch in Los Sauces, always driving around the Valley in his green pickup truck with wooden side rails.  Many happy days were spent at his ranch, tending to his cows, mending fences, and harvesting hay bales.

When Felix was drafted, he thought those were going to be the worst years of his life, but they ended up being some of his best years.  He would often tell stories of his time in the military and was proud to be an Army Veteran.  Annually, he trained for the Pioneer Day 5K Run and performed his daily “Army Dozen” exercises to stay fit.

Felix cherished being a schoolteacher, explaining how it had allowed him to “touch the future” as he proudly watched his students become adults with families of their own.  He continued to delight his care givers and those who visited him at the assisted living home by reciting poetry and singing hymns or any other favorite song.  Felix served in the Saint Joseph’s Catholic Parish and attended mass faithfully.  He was proud to be a Knight of Columbus - 4th Degree.

Felix  is survived by his sister Cleo (Don) Bell, Sand Springs, Okla., and brother-in-law Joe Abeyta of Saguache, Colo.; Sisters-in-law Bernice Miller of Colorado Springs, Colo., Elva Salazar of Canon City, Colo., and Cari Salazar of Owasso, Okla.; his children Judy (Brad) Veatch, Kathleen Newell, Cindy (Ron) Nickels, Darlene (George) Letey, and Norman (Anna) Cordova; grandchildren Andrianna Veatch, Vicente Veatch, Ermelinda Veatch, Carmen Nickels, Mary Imelda Letey, John Letey, Mary Veronica Letey, and Giovani Ignacio Cordova; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
